Community Matters training in Yorkshire and Humber

Community Assets Matter (2 day course)
2010: 3 & 4 June 2010
Sheffield
Voluntary Action Sheffield, The Circle, 33 Rockingham Lane, SHEFFIELD S1 4FW.

2011: 7 & 8 February 2011
HULL
(HFCO) Lonsdale Community Centre, 8 Lonsdale Street, HULL HU3 6PA.

An introductory 2 day workshop aimed at all levels of advisers and community anchors involved in advising front line staff and organisations on managing and running community centres/organisations.

The sessions look at a range of important knowledge requirements, underpinning skills and techniques associated with managing community assets. The workshop covers the main legal essentials of managing a centre and highlight some of the key headline communication and relationships requirements.

The workshop assumes some prior knowledge as the sessions adopt a problem solving/case study approach using an extended case scenario to support and promote discussions around best practice and shared experiences. An important aspect of the workshop is to address the issues and areas developed by the participants, and accordingly programme timings are approximate to cater for the needs of the group.

The workshop is supported by a comprehensive Resource Handbook specifically written with advisers in mind to support further advice and sign posting.

Is it for me?
The programme is aimed at local infrastructure organisations, development workers, local authorities, housing associations, funding advisors, Community Anchors and others who provide information and advice to frontline organisations on the management of their community buildings and other community assets.

Course aims:
By the end of the course participants will:
- Be more knowledgeable about the diversity of legal and technical aspects of managing community buildings and other community assets.
- Be better able to advise and support frontline organizations across a wider range of income generation opportunities.
- Receive the new Community Assets Matter resource handbook that addresses where to go for more specialised advice and help.
