Risk when carrying shop stock

Did you know there is a risk when carrying shop stock?

Talking to a number of community shops, some are allowing volunteers to carry shop stock without amending their car insurance to allow them to be covered whilst doing so. Obviously the odds of getting caught are low and there may not be an incident that gets picked up for years - maybe never - but if there is a bad crash with a volunteer's estate car full of shop stock and they are thus uninsured, then the impact on the individuakl would be immensely damaging and the publicity could be very grim indeed for the whole community shop movement.

Our understanding is that many insurance companies are prepared to assume the risk for only token payments but they do need to be told.

(Our thanks to Ken Parsons of the Rural Shops Alliance for bringing this to our attention)
