Chittlehamholt, in Devon, are in the process of setting up and building a new community shop. They would be most grateful to hear from anyone on the network who knows of manufactures of timber frame or prefabricated building manufacturers.

Chittlehamholt would also like to hear from any other community shops that are of a timber construction or similar to get ideas and learn from their experience, or just to visit your shop to see for themselves.

If anyone can help in these areas, please reply to this message on the forum for all to see or contact Ron Thorne from Chittlehamholt via the Plunkett Foundation by contacting james.alcock@plunkett.co.uk or 01993 814375

Cambridgeshire ACRE have been in touch to say they have produced a fact sheet on timber buildings as attached.

Cambridgeshire ACRE suggest Timber Works who supply pre fabricated buildings may be worth looking at.

Our shop is an ELLIS building.

I am not sure if Ellis are still going but they were big in public service buildings and this one was a school classroom. After 25 years of use as that and 7 as a shop it is still pretty functional. My recommendation would be to contact the local Education department before you do anything else. They would have had to pay to have our one destroyed when they went over to a brick classroom. It came apart pretty easily with professional movers and was reassembled on site.
