Your Ideas for Freedom

The government is consulting on ‘your ideas for your freedom’ and the Plunkett Foundation is planning to submit a few ideas of what legislative barriers could be removed to support community shops. If you have any ideas for what laws could be repealed, removed or changed; or regulations that could be removed to improve the running of your shop, please email your thoughts to james.alcock@plunkett.co.uk or reply below.

A national website has been set up to submit all ideas to http://yourfreedom.hmg.gov.uk/

There were 2 very frustrating barriers Market Overton encountered when setting up the community shop:
  1. Planning - insistance that we went through the usual consultation when virtually all the village were passionately for the shop to be built
  2. The length of time it takes to get an off-licence

All Cannings Community Store Association find that the requirements for CRS clearance makes it totaly unrelaistic to give young people job experience in the shop.

It is too expensive to register several staff/volunteers and volunteers are unwilling to let their names go forward.

This regulation needs to be completely changed somehow.
