Ashton Hayes and Mouldsworth Village Shop
Ashton Hayes celebrated the opening of it's new community shop early in 2010. The community is known for it's initiatives to cut carbon emissions in the village and was determined not to lose it's shop and say good bye to local shopping. The community rallied together to save its shop and continue providing a valuable service to its residents.
Committee member, Kate Harrison said “We will be working with local suppliers to offer top-quality produce – one of the main requests from the community. Having a well-stocked shop will help to lower our carbon footprint and contribute to our village’s carbon neutral aims.”
January 2011: Ashton Hayes and Mouldsworth Community Shop host Making Local Food Work study visit
In January 2011, the shop's first anniversary, Ashton Hayes and Mouldsworth Community Shop hosted a very vibrant and enthusiastic Making Local Food Work study visit for the community of Pwllglas in Wales. The visit was arranged for the Pwllglas group, to help them gain further information about the whole process of setting up a community-owned shop from scratch.
The visiting party were very grateful to receive plenty of useful advice and information and commented " Seeing the actual shop 'up and running' in reality is very helpful" "The enthusiasm was inspiring and contagious".
