Shop History:
Aveton Gifford is a community owned shop, which arose as a result of the last surviving shop in the village closing in 2003. After an initial consultation with the village proved the idea viable, Aveton Gifford Village Shop Association was formed and fundraising for the new community shop began. Villagers bought shares priced at £5 each, and applications for funding were sought.
Initially the shop was housed in a temporary metal container, dubbed the 'green tin', while funding, location and planning permission were secured for a permanent location for the shop. The new shop premises, a purpose built timber-framed building that opened for business on the 1st August 2009, is a result of the hard work of the founding committee, the shop staff, the villagers' support for the scheme, and the current committee.
