Broadhempston Community Shop
Broadhempston Community Shop has been open for business since early April 2009. Since the opening the shop has gone from strength to strength and has seen an increase in trade as a community-owned enterprise.
The shop specialises in fresh bread and vegetables which are delivered daily, and includes a range of locally sourced produce as well as providing the everyday basics
Shop Forges New Community Links
Broadhempston Community Shop has fundamentally changed our village and bonded our community. Anyone observing the creation of the community shop, its transformation from being the topic of worried chats between visionary villagers through to public forums, committee meetings, legal minefields, fund raising and those first tentative steps into retail would be astonished. It's a remarkable story.
Not that the journey hasn't had its share of bumpy riodes, but the road is getting smoother. Its success lies in more than its healthy balance sheet. Its real strength lies in things that have no price. Because of the shop strangers have become friends, customers become volunteers, young and old happily mix and former kingpins are happy dusting shelves. So for its second birthday in April, take time to raise a glass to our very special village shop.
